Is unequal justice really the biggest problem we face in this country?

The biggest problem facing the country right now is a two-tiered justice system, in which friends of the regime are protected and allowed to commit crimes with impunity, and political opponents of the regime face life imprisonment for lesser crimes.

For the record, I disagree with Hemingway's article in many other ways, including how to deal with a "two tiered just system," but I'm curious about what SW thinks about this point.

It seems kind of odd to me to say that this is the "biggest problem facing the country."

Honestly, I think Hemingway's proposed solution is a bigger problem then her problem. Then again, I don't like insurrections or dead kids.

The two-tiered justice system may not be the biggest problem, but it certainly is a significant one.

Fortunately, the voters of San Francisco came to their senses yesterday and recalled their idiot D.A. Boudin in a landslide.

@Thinkerbell Which, imo, is a better way to deal with problems in government, as opposed to using guns to take out Supreme Court Justices or hang Vice Presidents doing their jobs.

Its about guns, but not just about guns. If we want to actually make America Great, imo, we should actually look at ways for Government to serve the people better as opposed to just calling it evil and making sure we're better armed than our neighbors when it collapses or some of us bring it down.

I like the California recall system, where where immediate removal of a miscreant officeholder can be up to a simple majority the voters.

In other places, impeachment and conviction by other politicians is the only recourse, and of course that is unlikely to happen.

@Thinkerbell Did they? Excellent. And boot his triple cop killet father deep into the ocean
@Thinkerbell I'm not 100% sold on recalls, but I'll go with a non violent and civilized way to address political issues first every time for sure.

"I'm not 100% sold on recalls..."

Unless of course it's a conservative officeholder being recalled, right, Misty...? 😂

So maybe you are 50% sold. 🤣
@Thinkerbell Not at all true on conservatives vs liberals. I get nervous about getting too close to direct democracy anywhere.

Is it just because I live in a red state with a democratic governor? Again, I don't think it's just that.

Honestly, I think California has a lot of really wacky laws that I don't like, but i'd rather let them experiment with them over there.

" I get nervous about getting too close to direct democracy anywhere."

I don't think the direct recall system in CA has worked badly; it doesn't happen often that a miscreant politician is removed even there.
@Thinkerbell Maybe not. I can honestly say though, that if shades of direct democracy vs republican/representative democracy was the only issue we're dealing with, I'd probably have left SW politics section a long time ago and either gone back to my EP\gender roots on here or just stopped posting entirely.

The thing is, imo, we need to have this discussion, and continue to to "fight" about it, because that's what's gotten us to where we are. We don't have the biggest teeth and can't run faster than gazelles. Instead, we developed brains and the ability to work together.

The recall issue is a great example. I'm not sold that a 51% recall measure whenever it's called for is the best solution, but I'm willing to listen, and even if we disagree, abide by the result, without resorting to violence, even if I think you "rigged" the election on the issue.

In the long run, even if I can't prove you rigged. It, and I lose, I can still try again the next time, as opposed to abandoning the process and surrendering the result to who has the most guns or, is willing to cause the most casualties.
