Is Putin safe from international law difficulties, since the US is arming Ukraine?

When both sides break the law is the law broken forever?

Arming a nation that your opponent is invading violates any law?
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@Elessar yeah. Obviously arming a conflict zone like that isn't legal under international law

@Changeisgonnacome Feel free to link me any reference, where it's stated that it's illegal sending weaponry to the defenders of a sovereign nation being illegally occupied.

@Elessar the Geneva Convention of 1949 is real and applies to the US, even if I refuse to give you a link.

@Changeisgonnacome I'm no expert about the Geneva Convention but I can't find anything in it that states it's illegal to supply weaponry to defenders of occupied countries.

@Elessar it's three thick volumes. You read it to find out?

@Changeisgonnacome It's 2022, there's a magic thing called "search engines", that at the query "arming defenders, Geneva convention" produced no significant results.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@Elessar the law of armed conflict does outlaw arming a war without any attempt to negotiate peace. It's not legal to just go to war.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@Elessar right arming defenders. Really? That's not the question.

@Changeisgonnacome Attempts at negotiating peace have been there since the beginning, but fruitless, last time I checked.

The west/U.S. isn't going to war.
