What's wrong with this story?

From Fox News, about a shooting on an Amtrak train. Quote:

"Magnus said the Counter Narcotics Alliance, a task force comprised of local and federal law enforcement agencies, boarded a New Orleans-bound Amtrak train stopped at a station in downtown Tucson around 8 a.m. to do a routine check for illegal guns, drugs, money, and other items. "

The wording of that sentence really sends chills up my spine. Bad writing? Or what?

Amtrak just doesn't give a s**t about the safety of their passengers.

@SubstantialKick You mean because Amtrak allowed an armed federal task force to invade their loaded passenger train?

@mikeylyksit So.. what happens if they find someone with. .(wait for it) .. Money? Then they take someone's money away?

Well I mean, it would probably be a good idea to have this done at the station before boarding the train.

@SubstantialKick YES!!!! Doing this on a loaded train is like trying to push the train with the caboose...

@Iwillwait Yes, they do exactly that. It's called civil asset forfeiture. If you have more than a few dollars on you in CASH, it is routinely "adopted" by law enforcement, and re-homed. No, I didn't make that up. I wish I did. And it's perfectly legal, too. If a cop takes your money from you, you have to sue to get your money back. In the process, you have to prove that you earned the money legally, and that you had a valid reason for carrying.....MONEY. Your money is considered guilty unless you can prove it innocent. But you have to pay a lawyer many thousands of dollars to make that case for you. So most people who have their money "re-homed" by law enforcement don't bother to fight it.

@mikeylyksit what does "re-homed," mean?
mikeylyksit · 41-45, M
@Iwillwait It's a cute term to imply that your money needs a new home, and therefore they are doing you a service by taking your money away from you. It's for the good of the money, see? Think of it like adopting a dog from the local shelter. You are re-homing the poor orphaned puppy. The cops are under the impression that your money will be happier in their pockets than yours. Understand now?

@mikeylyksit I do. Imma fundnap my money back! 😤
