Have used the synonym often - innocuous
Nocuous - Likely to be harmful
Innocuous - not harmful

I think it probably changed slightly into noxious. I've never heard or seen nocuous.

It is a word in it's own right.
Noxious - harmful, poisonous, or very unpleasant.
Nocuous - harmful, poisonous, or very unpleasant.
Innocuous - not harmful or offensive.

@Gusman I didn't mean that it didn't exist, just that I have never encountered it while noxious is a fairly common word.
