Columbus' doesn't need an extra s. There's an unnecessary comma after #ColumbusDay and there is also an unnecessary comma before the '& celebrate.'
On an unrelated note, the Atlantic wasn't entirely unexplored at the time. That's not grammar though.

@UndeadPrivateer I should have added “history” as well.

@SimplyTracie Attempted rapist on the supreme court, why not honor a rapist fraud with a holiday? It plays into the narrative well.

@UndeadPrivateer Another day goes down in history

@UndeadPrivateer I agree with the mistakes you’ve picked up on, but a comma is needed after #ColumbusDay.
@SimplyTracie “Your” should be “You’re”. I can’t stand it when a group name has a grammatical or spelling error. I won’t use it. Lol

@marsbar "On Columbus Day, we honor his remarkable accomplishments as a navigator and celebrate his voyage into the unknown expanse of the Atlantic Ocean."
is more correct than
"On Columbus Day we honor his remarkable accomplishments as a navigator and celebrate his voyage into the unknown expanse of the Atlantic Ocean." ?
I find the pause sounds unnatural when I try to read out the first.

@marsbar I understand. I wish we could create our own groups.

@UndeadPrivateer Yes, with the comma after the prepositional phrase, it makes the sentence clearer, especially since it’s a long sentence.
If it was a shorter sentence like this, “On Columbus Day we had a party”, then a comma is not required.

@SimplyTracie Right? There are so many mistakes in them. Lol

@marsbar Hm, interesting. My College English teachers would chide people for using commas like that. XD
marsbar · F
@UndeadPrivateer I taught my students to use commas like that. Lol
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@marsbar Yeah, was what most of my classmates responded with. lol. PIE paragraphs were also the norm and lots of people said their previous teachers hated them.

@UndeadPrivateer I think there are slight variations to certain grammatical teachings. It’s strange. When my daughter was in 2nd grade, her teacher said to use a comma BEFORE “because”, & I was up in arms about it. 😅

@marsbar Language is a dynamic and constantly evolving thing, there's lots of different approaches. I think so long as it flows well it's fine, that's my internal ruleset at least.

@marsbar That sounds much more formally correct. 👌
