Define "British accent"
Where I used to live in the coal mining valleys of South Wales, I could tell by the accent of the guy in the nearest shop that he wasn't from my village, he was from the next village up on the hill, barely a mile away. That's how localised the accents are here.
I suspect that you may have become confused with 'BBC English'
