Are you currently trying to learn another language?

I've always been envious of people who can speak more than one language. The languages I most want to learn are Japanese and Portuguese (Brazilian). My boyfriend speaks fluent Brazilian Portuguese, and I love hearing him speaking it with his family. I've picked up some phrases from him, but would like to learn it in a formal context. Japanese is just a language I've always been interested in and am planning on taking courses in it this fall.

If you are learning one, are you using an app like Duolingo (curious if those are actually helpful)?

Duolingo is fun, but it it’s really just an introduction. If you really want to speak a second language, you need to be taking immersed in it or at least regular classes where you’re speaking and writing and learning your verb conjugations. Duolingo isn’t teaching you how to conjugate your verbs so how are you going to carry on a proper conversation without knowing how to do that?
