Can "Let me hold something?" mean ""Can I borrow some money?" ?

An online English-Japanese dictionary( https://eow.alc.co.jp/search?q=bum) says ""Let me hold something?" means "Can I borrow some money?" Can it really mean that? Thank you.

No.

You should use a better dictionary. The Cambridge Dictionary is online.

The entry is much clearer there.

If you are looking for a definition a translating dictionary is not the best tool, or at least it should not be used alone.

I've never heard it used in that context...

@HootyTheNightOwl I see. Thank you

No, it really doesn't mean that per se. It can mean that, but only in a specific context, maybe?

@DunningKruger Thank you so much

No. That's probably a misunderstanding by the dictionary compiler.

@ArishMell Thank you
No, you would likely never say that when you wanted to borrow some money. It would convey entirely the wrong meaning.
