I tried Duolingo for the first time this week or so and I feel like it gets unnecessary flak

As long as you understand it's meant for like 10-30 minutes a day and not hours. Also don't pay for anything. The ads are also annoying, but it's free so.

You can get Duolingo premium and there's no ads, no heart meter and word practice and mistakes that you can correct. I haven't yet paid for it, but I got Duolingo Super due to winning a league competition.

@basilfawlty89 The one thing that sounds interesting to me about premium is the speaking practice feature. Is that any good do you know?

@DDonde haven't tried it yet to be honest, my spelling is getting better and I've got the hang of Irish grammar and my vocabulary is building, but I'm a bit nervous to try speaking as I still have some difficulty with pronouncing some words.

@basilfawlty89 I've got free premium for 3 days twice this year. It's fine but I notice it makes me slack a lot. There's some advantage to only have 5 hearts. At least I try to focus more and write down things to not make the same mistake twice.
