What was the best way you learned a language

I use to speak quite a bit of Spanish. But I haven’t had anyone to talk fluently to. Now that I’m mostly in Spanish/English speaking cities I find it really needed. How did you learn your 2nd language.

Like you I have no native speakers of french around me so I basically taught myself and learned through books. I also took some classes but found them a waste of time cause I was beyond the other speakers.
