Do they have neutral gender too? Spanish doesn't seem to have it. Slavic languages do.

@CrazyMusicLover It's only been a month since I learned French. I don't know about neutral genders. 馃 But as far as I've learned, every single thing is either male or female. Even food! Pizza is female, and sandwich is male. 馃ぃ But I wish they would stop there. The annoying thing is that adjectives and colors, articles, and other grammatical stuff change based on that object's gender. Is it like that in Slavic languages too?

(love how my comment got marked as "sensitive" because I said Fr*nch 馃槍)

@LookingForTheSummer Yes, that's how Slavic languages work but in addition we have neutral gender too. But we don't have articles, the gender is indicated from suffixes. Yes, pizza is female, sandwich is male, bread is male, rice is female, potato is male, carrot is female, grape is neutral, egg is neutral. The biggest fail is that "a girl" is neutral too. 馃槀
But hey...now I realized it's in German like that too. It's Das M盲dchen, not die M盲dchen.

@CrazyMusicLover That's crazy!
That's what I find annoying about it. They just randomly picked genders for stuff, which complicates their grammar even more. WTF. 馃ぃ

@CrazyMusicLover
rice is female, potato is male
These are inverted here, the rest are the same, egg is male and grape female
"a girl" is neutral too
WHAT

@LookingForTheSummer I'm still fascinated how in English all animals have neutral gender. 馃槅 But it makes more sense than giving an animal a default gender without knowing its sex. 馃槀

@CrazyMusicLover That's how it should be, in my opinion. Get rid of genders in your languages, FFS.
In my mother tongue, even pronouns for humans have no gender. There is only one pronoun that means he/she, and it is used for everyone. 馃槃

@Elessar That makes sense a bit, since here rice ends with a and for you potato ends with a. But not that it would always be the rule, right? 馃槄 I still can't get over El alma in Spanish. Just...why?
Elessar 路 26-30, M
@CrazyMusicLover My own first name ends in -a 馃拃

@CrazyMusicLover Also, idk if it's a thing in Spain or elsewhere, here you can definitely get a nickname composed by an article that generally matches your gender, and a noun that doesn't. E.g. you're a guy and you appear clumsy in P.E. at school? Say no more, you're "il patata" now
Notable case is the son of an (in)famous politician who's called (yes, even formally in the news) "il Trota" (the trout). If you Google "il trota" chances are that you'll find him

@Elessar I heard that happens in Italy. 馃槄 Here it's a bit strange (or at least used to be) when a woman's name ends with something else than A.
