So here's the thing, right. That chant is obviously the most pure antisemitism you can verbalise, and most conservatives would be justifiably horrified at that.
But they still believe it. They just don't use those words. Because it all ties back to the grand antisemitic narrative of shadowy forces controlling the world who are bent on destroying our society and entrenching their own power through mechanisms like the replacement of the white race. By repeating these stories, they entrench antisemitism because the most extreme element dig deeper and find the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and its antecedents.
And what's terrifying is that conspiracy theories are mainstream conservative thought right now. Globalism, the deep state, covid or global warming as a hoax - all of that requires a sophisticated functioning conspiracy to work there. Even back when everyone was freaking about "The convoy" in 2018 and how it had shadowy funders.
Who are (((them))) behind all the conspiracies? "Jews will not replace us" - that shit is literally about the American/Mexican border.
Antisemitism is a serious fucking problem right now, and getting worse. And what we do is that we turn it into this dumb question of "Do you support Israel or Hamas". God, it pisses me off.

@CountScrofula Why should people who hate Jews be called "antisemites" when people who hate other ethnic groups are just called racists? That seems to make Jews more special than everyone else, like they should be loved instead of hated.
zaatar · 22-25, F
@Diotrephes i like the way you think. it never really made sense to say antisemitism, especially since arabs are included in that. yet when an arab criticizes israel, we get called antisemitic. it never made sense, thanks for pointing this out. i never thought about it that way even though i questioned it
SumKindaMunster · 51-55, M
@CountScrofula Nonsense. You don't know anything about Conservatives. Again, I noted the attempt to draw attention away from the anti-Semitism from the left being expressed right now.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SumKindaMunster Well I grew up and now live in an extremely conservative rural area and have worked politically with conservatives my entire adult life.
Obviously not all conservatives think this it is an enormous umbrella term for thousands of political movements, but there's a huge strain who like to bang on about globalism and figures like George Soros paying for bad things to happen. That's classic antisemitism.
Leftists can be any form of bigot you want and there's bad individuals in any movement. I've yet to see any kind of antisemitism baked into mainstream left ideas though. The accusations of antisemitism all centre around Israel, and yeah I just reject that. Loads of Jews have problems with Israel or even Zionism as a concept.

@zaatar Yeah it's piss poor language considering who semites actually are.

@CountScrofula "Anti-Semitism" was a term coined by 19th century Germans, looking for a euphemism for "Judenhass" (literally "Jew-hate"). It's definitely not a perfect term, but neither is "homophobia" but when conservatives start with their "I'm not AFRAID of gay people", I just respond with an eyeroll. Ultimately words are defined by how they're used, not their etymology. I'm fine with simply saying "anti-Jewish" or "anti-gay/LGBT" though. I often prefer the latter to "homophobic" for various reasons ("homophobic" makes it sound like a personal hang-up; "anti-LGBT" makes it clear it's part of a concerted effort to undermine LGBT acceptance). And there's a major distinction between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism.

@CountScrofula
No it isn't. It's only anti Semitism if you make his religion an issue, I don't care about his beliefs, its his actions I oppose. Since when is the term "Globalist" anti Semitic?
No? And the massive anti Israeli demonstrations occurring by pro Palestinian groups doesn't qualify for anti Semitism?

Don't you know that Jews in Israel are protesting against the Zionists?

@Diotrephes Can you explain how that is relevant to the discussion?
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SumKindaMunster I think I'm literally going to be unable to convince you of this but like, let me be clear that antisemitism as a political narrative is how the whole thing works. There's a straight line from the protocols of the elders of zion to George Soros conspiracy theories, to "Jews Will Not Replace Us".
The belief that there are shadowy elites working to replace the white race with non-whites, and that conveniently, those shadowy elites happen to be Jewish, is the most standard antisemitism you can think of. Nobody accuses Jeff Bezos of this stuff , but they love talking about George Soros and the Rothschilds.
And on the Israeli thing - if you think supporting Palestinian people is antisemitic then you're accusing a ton of Jews of antisemitism.

@CountScrofula I'm well aware of anti-Semitic tropes being applied to the right wing. You don't need to explain them to me, I find that I have to defend myself all the time even though I don't embody them and know nobody who does.
And on the Israeli thing - if you think supporting Palestinian people is antisemitic then you're accusing a ton of Jews of antisemitism.
No. "supporting" Palestine is not what I am referring to.
I'm referring to the protestors that chant about pushing Jews into the sea. I'm talking about people tearing down missing Israeli posters in a fit of rage. I'm talking about Jewish people in America being intimidated, attacked, and yes even killed for expressing their support for Israel.
If you are going to disingenuously claim that every Conservative is an anti-Semite, then I will claim that all Leftists are as well and point to these examples as proof.

@Diotrephes No, it's a political protest. They are protesting a political policy. It has nothing to do with antisemitism.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SumKindaMunster "From the river to the sea Palestine will be free" has nothing to do with exterminating Jews it's about Palestinian people from West Bank to Gaza having, you know, freedom and not living under military occupation.
It is extremely frustrating to have what can be fairly complex and thoughtful beliefs flattened into "Oh you're just a Hamas supporter who wants to kill the Jews". A free Palestine and a homeland for the Jewish people are not incompatible concepts.
And it's a far cry from "Jews will not replace us" which sure as hell isn't being chanted at pro-Palestinian rallies, but weirdly, was chanted at a rally over the removal of a Robert E Lee statue.

It's being co-opted by radical Palestinian supporters to reflect their desire to get rid of the Jews.
Oh really??? Gosh, what's that like? Having your beliefs and comments constantly questioned with purity tests, being forced to answer for things that have nothing to do with your point or beliefs, and having people obnoxiously assume your beliefs and opinions based on one comment. Must be tough for you.
You go right ahead and make that event the most important thing that happened to you ever, and let it influence your opinion of Conservatives.
I'll go right ahead and assume you support Palestinian protestors interested in killing Jews.
