In ass-backward Christian communities in the US, wife beating is pretty common, and they all use passages from the Old Testament to justify it, because mean is head of the household and family, and women and children must obey, and a beating is a legitimate remedy for disobedience, as prescribed in the Old Testament.

In reality, they're just abusers, who cling to flimsy excuses.
