I Remember Life Before the Internet

I read in history books, that back in the 80's there was a such thing as modems, as a means of communicating between active computers.

In the days before social media, before chat lines, before even the world wide web, there were on line networks like PlayNET, for the Commodore 64.

Those modems were noisy little things that that played the dial tones off your phone line. If someone called you or picked up an extension, it broke the connection and you had to start over. Most everyone signed on with AOL. So ancient compared to today.
