Did you have Gmail back when it was cool?

When it was just being rolled out and it had to be offered to you because you were special?

I was a grad student when it was being rolled out, and we were offered it on beta test or something similar. That would have been in the later 90's I think.

I looked it up, and gmail opened in 2004, so that must have been when we started.
