Land use data centers we need farm land!, wasn’t dial up enough?

As food prices go up economics tells us that either increasing supply or lowering demand is the best way to lower price. Bc data centers are encroaching on agricultural. Supply has and is being lessened due to less arable land.
Survival,of humans, requires food water and shelter. The internet, though convenient, results in laziness loss of farmland and massive supply shortages; bc of it’s demands on water land and electricity.

Those data centers aren't needed for the internet. We have enough of them for that. The new ones are only for AI.

Surely, in a country the size of the USA, the area taken by big sheds full of computers is proportionately tiny, but their demands for electricity and cooling-water are a serious matter.

(Is the water retained and re-cooled for continuous use, extracted from and returned to rivers at the same spot, or just dumped down the drain?)

The other question of course, is whether these things are really needed at all.

@ArishMell what I’d like to see is upward motion of water as it gets hotter. Upon reaching maximum altitude it naturally cools and sinks back to the bottom to then reheat and continue its job conservation and reusable is very important at this stage in the game

@jehova Power-stations have used something a bit like that for a long time, of course, although there is still a continual loss.
If your food is costing more, then that probably has more to do with supply chain expenses than anything else.

Chickens, for example, don't suddenly need a ton more space than they did before... and some farms really have them crammed in. So it's not like fewer eggs are suddenly being laid.

Small scale farmers are also selling direct to the public for lower prices... so, they're either eating losses that will bankrupt them (unlikely) or the fat cats supplying the feed etc to larger chicken farms are inflating the prices so much that the cost has to be passed on to the consumer.

Maybe the data centres are being used as a smoke screen to keep people from looking at the real problem???

@HootyTheNightOwl supply and demand. Less farm land less suppy same and/or increasing demand together equal higher prices. Thats basic economics. Yes data centers seem attraftive, convenience, but less farm land means less production/supply which means higher prices.

@HootyTheNightOwl certainly we (the public) aren’t being shown the entirety of what’s going on, but it’s important to monitor the situation.
