Due to a new law in Australia, starting 10 December, users must be 16 or older to sign in to YouTube. This means they will lose access to like, subscribe, and comment on your videos.

YouTube access restrictions for users under 16 in Australia
Due to a new law in Australia, the minimum age required to sign in to YouTube in Australia is 16. This means that starting on 10 December 2025, users under 16 years old will be automatically signed out from YouTube. This includes any supervised pre-teen and teen accounts. We recognise this has important implications for users, and we encourage you to review your options below.

Note: Signing out of YouTube won’t sign you out from your Google Account or other Google services.
When signed out, you won’t have access to certain features, including:

Likes
Subscriptions
Private playlists
Memberships
If you have a YouTube channel, your channel will no longer be visible to other users, and you will not be able to access it, including:

Uploads

Youtube tried to pull this on us in Europe during the pandemic with age restricted videos. I sent them to hell. I wouldn't provide my ID to any website like this.

My opinion: It's BS. 15 year olds are old enough to be able to use Youtube responsibly. Of course they should have denied the access to the age-restricted videos but I see no reason to forbid them to own an account and upload their stuff. Seriously...why?

@CrazyMusicLover Australia has introduced a law that forbids under 16-year-olds access to social media sites, including Youtube. Those sites that do not comply will be fined AU$50 million.

@Gusman It's insane. When I was 15 I was probably the most driven and creative and curious about the world, I understand that there were quite different dynamics on social media sites then but still, I have beautiful memories of creating and sharing stuff that other people reacted to or I discussed movies and music with others and nobody ever had any issues with it.
