does a gadget\device have same ip address regardless where you are located?? i dont have internet at home

Northwest · M
It depends on what you mean.

By "where you are located", do you mean within your home, or at a different geographic location? Put differently, are you on the same network?

If you are on the same network, then your router will remember your device/gadget MAC address (unique network interface controller), and the same internal IP address is assigned to it. Usually, this IP address cannot be reached from the outside, unless you told the router how to reach.

The latter is how things work on an IPv4 network. Thins on an IPv6 network work a bit differently, but you will still get the same IP address. Again, this is looking at if you're inside the network. If an outside observer is looking at it, then all the gadgets have the same IP address, if this is an IPv4 network, then don't if you're on an IPv6 network.

If you are on a different network, then you will get a different network IP address, every time you change locations.

Not necessarily. Ask if you have a permanent IP address. Then yes. Most are not permanent. Permanent IP addresses usually are done on computers that don't move around.

Other devices it changes.

What is this really concerning?

I suspect something specific that you don't want to talk about. 😆

A hint if true. IP addresses are assigned to organizations in ranges. And they often have their own masks.

@1490wayb if you are just curious, this link on this site is more telling.

Especially if you are not extremely diligent on logging out. Most likely have this page filled with different IP addresses of their own.

@lpthehermit I have mentioned that to the admin a few times. It goes by known lookup tables so the admin mentioned. None of that is under their control so they said.
You can hotspot tether your phone to your computer. That allows you to use the internet via a mobile phone with your regular internet service provider. It uses more data and power.

Depends on where you connect and how you connect. But network card address and your sym chip never change. Big Brother is quite aware of what you've been up to.
Are you trying to get Netflix on you toaster?
