that this whole place is fake and that someone you know has set this all up just to see how you would react to different things?

I don't think it's fake. It's real. But I have little doubt that every comment here is being chronicled in some way and shared. For money. They have no real revenue stream to maintain something like this. And marketers like to know how people think. There's value in data and opinions.
