Yeah, I did do that once. In college.
This bunch of guys got together and decided they were going to pull some high school shenanigans at a college level. They tried to convince me that this young woman was interested in me, and I don't know that it would have been a "Carrie" type situation (What's the word for it when it's a guy in that situation? Barry?), but I'm certain it would have ended with me dressing up to go meet her, and them being there laughing at me.
When I didn't fall for it, they came clean and told me it was a prank, and I sort of moved on. Then I got a letter, ostensibly from the girl in question, saying that she actually was interested.
I'll never know if it was actually from her or not.
