It's very hard to tell who the genuine homeless are. Many in my area are Romanian gypsies who are only here to thieve. Others have food piled up, yet still ask for money. Then there are some reasonably well-dressed people asking for an exact amount of money as they say they need it for a travel fare or a coffee etc. I don't hand over money anymore.

@meggie oh yes we had some this summer for the first time standing on street corners wearing scarves and people were saying they were Afghanis or other Middle easterners. I knew they weren’t because they didn’t have those scarves tied up properly like hijab-wearing ladies in the Middle-East do. Come to find out someone investigated and they were Gypsies that stood on busy street corners pretending to be another ethnic group. I think they come right up the interstate and stop at different cities to see how good the donations are and then leave when it doesn’t pan out like they hope.

@cherokeepatti the police keep a close eye on them. They steal labelled carrier bags and go around with tin snips to cut off security labels and then use the bag to carry the goods outside. They also get a cute child to hug you and while you do that they steal your handbag. They look m7ch older than they are. I guess it's the old fashioned clothing.

@meggie maybe also because they are out in the sun during the daytime begging, too much sun can age skin.
