I'm looking for a way....

How I can help people. I've been so overwhelmed but I have been trying to think of something.

When I decided to help my neighbors it was because I got angry, and because I saw a need. I live in a large apartment building, and there are several low income families living here....so much so that Salvation Army does a regular food delivery for them once a month.

I saw a sign posted, three years ago, that said Salvation Army would NOT deliver food during the months of November and December, because all they were doing was ONE meal...for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I don't know why that upset me so much...but I tried to imagine living for an entire month on ONE Thanksgiving dinner and $23 worth of food stamps, which is all some of them get.

I started going to my local food pantry once a week JUST during November and December, and sharing the food with ALL my neighbors regardless of their income. I even had help from my church, at first.

Last year, my church people stopped helping me. THIS year I am stubbornly doing it by myself. There is a lot less food, because I can only fit so much in my car...but I refuse to quit. And my wonderful neighbors have gathered round me and I now have an entire crew of volunteers to help me carry the food into our building and unpack and arrange all of it, for a weekly "free groceries day".

I am telling you this story so that you can SEE the opportunities to help all around you. You don't have to be part of a volunteer program if you don't want to be. Find and create your OWN opportunities!!!

@4meAndyou That is kind of surprising.

@Lisafriend27 I suppose, to some people, it is surprising. To me, it's the way I am wired. You said you wanted to help people...so what are you waiting for? An engraved invitation? People who need help are OUT there. So HELP them. There are all too few who even THINK of others besides themselves.
