And he lived happily ever after…
There’s a guy I was friends with who worked with me on my first squadron. He was one of those guys who if he saw you struggle with something, would quietly help you out rather than take the piss. He had a really bad break up that he struggled to cope with and he applied for a posting to a squadron that was deployed overseas to try get over things. I was sad to see him go and while we tried to stay in contact life got in the way, as it does.
Anyway we reconnected this week and he’s seriously living now. He left the RAF after 7 years, learned to fly himself and now flies small domestic flights in the Bahamas and British Virgin Islands, generally taking locals to amenities they need. He lives in a lush villa by the sea with his two dogs and seems to have a permanent grin fixed to his face.
It’s good to see good people get the life they deserve.
