The slogan of a cause is not a dissertation, not a detailed examination of a society.
It's a rallying cry, simple and short.
"Black lives matter, too," does not have the same punch.
To dismiss the substance by quibbling with the motto is intellectually dishonest. I know, because I was dishonest.
A better statement would be "If black lives don't matter, then no life matters," but it's not catchy enough

@CHARMAINE Because protests are for the purpose of making people think, calling attention to something. Slogans are meant to jar us, make us think. "All life matters" would not do that. We'd just smile and go on our merry way.
