The Better Craftsperson #1. Dan Rather

Personally, I don't know of any better American combined journalist, interviewer and commentator than Dan Rather. On Twitter he once liked a reply of mine and his own reaction to mine was so perfect and nice. He's now in his nineties but I'm sure that he's still out there touching other people's state of mind and heart via other social media.

As an example of how he really perfected his craft I like now point to his interview, of already some ten years ago, of Carly Simon on "The Big Interview," where she discussed various aspects of her life and career, including her marriage to James Taylor, her creative process, and the inspiration behind her hit song "You're So Vain". The interview also touched on her health challenges and her ability to channel her struggles into her art

You are too young to remember others. There were many true journalists. Today most are need presenters only.

@samueltyler2 I go only on personal experiences, plus I'm not even American. As an youngster I was seduced by Alistair Cooke. I like him still, but I wonder how I'd rate him now as a commentator of America

Rather was a scoundrel who not only reported news in a biased fashion, but who attempted to use his position to influence elections.
