Have you ever heard of Identity Politics, it is a real thing. I identify as ______. And therefore I vote this way
@WasEP I get identity politics. My point, political beliefs can be informed by identitythey shouldn’t be inseparable from it.
WasEP · 51-55, M
@InterdimensionalSideEye agree, some people get so wrapped up in their political beliefs they can reason anymore
@WasEP that’s exactly what I meant..then dialogue is impossible and it’s becoming more prevalent.

SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M Best Comment
Not all people. For some their beliefs define their entire existence.
@SumKindaMunster exactly!! And it shouldn’t… isn’t that when we go tribal and radical and discourse is impossible?
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
@InterdimensionalSideEye It is! Perhaps that is intentional, eh?
@SumKindaMunster I think so. Yes.
BlueVeins · 26-30
Political beliefs can be part of an identity. Almost anything can be really, just depends how you define yourself. Frankly of all the things to define yourself around, your values and beliefs seem like good candidates.
@BlueVeins noted but all the labels and hypotheticals doesn’t change the reality when beliefs become identity, reasoning stops, facts stop mattering, and debate dies, yea? Those labels you mention above are just that…you can talk to 10 conservatives and get 10 different ideas….same with all of them. It’s over complicating things.
BlueVeins · 26-30
@InterdimensionalSideEye I think you're reversing causation. When 2 people with different political labels talk, usually it's unproductive. But that's not caused by the labels, that's caused by the differences in values which give rise to that labels in the first place.

@BlueVeins If they care enough to maintain peace in relationships, they can always avoid politics and gossip about the neighbors.
Hard to tell these days, isn't it? Since so many have made it their entire personality along with their religious beliefs 🙄

It IS possible to have other interests beyond it and a person should.
@DancingStarGoddess well said, I couldn’t agree more. Thank you.❤
@InterdimensionalSideEye you're very welcome ☺
In my opinion, how you drive, how you eat, how you think, how you vote, how you treat children, how you treat service workers, and much more, is all part of your identity. That doesn’t mean it’s negative, but it’s part of who you are.
How are they not ?

Political beliefs cause many to hate those who don’t look like them, don’t share their religious beliefs or sexual orientation; they want them excluded and even harmed.

Everything is political now.
@bijouxbroussard
Yup it wasnt an identity until MAGA threatened us into a corner so ya were gona fight back against the party of hate and lawlessness
deadmoon · 31-35, F
I realize this, but I don’t have a problem with people making their political beliefs their entire personality. It just makes it easier for me to weed certain people out of my life if necessary.
H1raeth · 36-40, M
true
i never hate anyone for their political beliefs
its such a complex subject

its like hating on someone over Shroedingers cat.
@H1raeth well I try not to as well sometimes it’s a very hard thing to do. But I think it’s important to be aware of it in ourselves.
@H1raeth The fact is, some people have political beliefs that compel them to hate others. This has always been so. Knowing this, I actively avoid those with certain political beliefs—for my own protection.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
Oh I beg to differ, for some people it's their ONLY identity.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
I disagree in part
To me religious, political or any other beliefs only exist as a result of who you are
@Pretzel Sure, beliefs emerge from who we are. But that doesn’t make them identity.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
It’s my opinion but I don’t feel it’s part of my identity
I like ur username. Lol
@deathfairy thank you and I like yours….

Some people are so weak, empty, or morally bankrupt that they have no idea how to live if they're not blindly following a political, religious, or infamous media figure. That's pathetic.

And lots of those people live to oppose/trample/stifle/destroy any perceived slight on their hero or cause. Just log on to other social media sites. It's all there. Lots of times, the stench is so awful that I have to close it out.

Now, while you probably assume I am cheering for your side, thus playing into what I have written above, well, think again.
I've called out no particular political side and that's by design.

Ever wonder how so many of these loathesome social media reptiles who have all the answers are rarely financially successful? If they're so smart...why aren't they rich?
MartinII · 70-79, M
A lot of people don't. Very sad.

Your beliefs make who you are.
What precipitated this statement?
Are you presuming something in other users here or something?
Are you subtly complaining about other users making political posts or something?
Can we deduce your own actual leanings from who you awarded Best Comment and discern a recurring pattern among that tribe?

The unspoken parts here would be useful context.
