The U.S.P.S Delivers Letters
Mountainside Penpal
by: Rob Paquin
Place the words on a paper
And seal it inside
Not even half of the thoughts
That in my mind, do reside
Stick a stamp to the outsiede
Place it into that box
Knowing that I never did
Get all my thoughts quite across
But it will have to do
As I hope it suffices
I lived and I learned
Through all of my vices
And here it is once again
Another loss in the end
Jotted down on some paper
Where I thought to pretend
And just like the last time
From so long ago
I accept your singular versions
As I wash out below
This time I will try
To take it in stride
I’ll burn all the ego
And I’ll drown in my pride
I’ll let the waves take me
For there’s no more to fear
I’ll bathe in the sadness
But I won’t shed a tear
I’ll walk onto that place
That’s always waited for me
Alone on the mountain
Where my heart will just freeze.
