Wondrous Inefficiency

Yezzz do it this way.

So my landlady, who lives right behind me, sent me a rent increase letter via certified mail. Yup. Can't complain it's only the 2nd in 13 years.

But between her decision to go with certified mail, instead of just calling me, and the trippy postal system has me thoroughly baffled.

Almost $10 postage at the local post office. And here we go. It travels from right behind me to the post office 3 miles away. It then travels halfway across the state for sorting and is returned to the post office where it all started before going out for delivery.

Talk about efficiency.
Yes take the long way home.

I had a small envelope in the mail from a landlord on December 23. I had never received a Christmas card from a landlord. Inside was a note raising my rent. Effective January 1.

@hunkalove That's my concern. My landlady is nice enough but she's in her mid 80s. She's in better health than me however being 14 years older. But I don't know what happens if something happens to her. Her son lives up the road and her granddaughter lives next door. I don't know how her estate is arranged regarding the 2 apartments in this house.

@Gibbon I have lived in this apartment 16 years. The previous landlord is in her 80s and owned the building about 40 years. She sold it to some greedy slum landlord who turned it over to a management company that seems to think tenants are the enemy. The nicest home I've ever had and it has become a nightmare.

@hunkalove This house is real old and it shows inside out. It's not well insulated and the well water isn't drinkable as far as I'm concerned. But the rent is a little less than half of what the area charges because she gets that in total between the two apartments.
