My daughter suggested a great idea for me to start my own business. Do these kind of contract workers even exist out there already?

I've been in the hotel business for 28 years (front desk) what she described sounds like a consultant. Where I would just be temporarily hired to improve any area they needed me for. The only thing I don't have experience in is marketing, setting up websites and stuff like that. The only things I can think of that I might be of help is stuff like maybe holding a meeting or presentation of hospitality, I'm also good at de-cluttering spaces. Overall, I think I'd just be good at going in the place to see what's going on and make some suggestions. But most of those things would be up to the owner if they wanted to spend money on improvements. When I really think about it, it sounds like something I'd like to do, but would someone out there really want to pay me for simple things like just giving suggestions and having a brief meeting with staff on how to improve their customer relation skills?

Do good research. Find out what is available in the market. If you're only starting, might be best to try a bit of freelance. Assess the market, potential clients and yourself if you're really up for it.

Figure out the demand first. Then make your moves based on this.

Creating websites is for web designers. The layout is something marketing team would have inputs on.

Decluttering space wise, there are youtube channels and books for it.

So find your target market, people you think would benefit from what you have to offer. Find out what you have that they'd need. And find out what reason you can give them to choose your service. Go from there.

what does a front desk person do besides CSR stuff? can you sell anything? suites or business rooms ? What else does a front desk person do ? that is the piece we don't understand--what the day to day and skill sets neede for a front desk person at a hotel / motel looks like.

Not to be the nay-sayer but they already have cleaing staff that is essentially contigent labor. if you point out clutter to a prospect their best business decision is to pay their cleaning staff overtime instead of your consutling fees.
28 yrs experience .. did any experience w such a consultant occur?

Maybe do some benchmarking ? See if you can you find evidence of consultants /agencies offering such services to the hospitality /hotel industry.
