Is remaking the Waldorf-Astoria worthwhile?

For the last few years, the iconic Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York city has been closed while the new owners completely renovate and restore the property. Its set to reopen at the end of this year.Is this endeavor worthwhile or is it a futile attempt to restore something past its prime to its formet glory.
