I have their heavy duty version, and it works great going on 40 years now

kirby's are the best. i have one with the shampooing system. definitely worth getting that, the shampooing system. it works really good
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
I have two of them. I have one from the 1950s and one from the 1980s and both have been in family since they were new

@HumanEarth I don’t know which one my parents had. But the one I got is a generation 3 from the early 90s. If I find another good deal like the one I did, I’ll probably buy another one.

I had one for 20 years expensive but never gave any trouble some one stole it several years ago
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
@olderuncle944 sorry to hear someone stole it. And yes, it’s a very well-made machine. But when I got is a generation 3. 40 bucks was like nothing for that because any vacuum cleaner is going to cost 40 bucks.

My mom had one. I have a Bissell. I don't have much to vacuum. I only have carpet in the basement. And I needed something light for the stairs.

I like that one and also Hoover
Sapio · 51-55, M
I have a Hoover bagless, canister vacuum. I love it. Picks up well and it's easy to empty.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
I had to look it up, but after reading the comments here and the interweb, now I want a Kirby.

I had a friend that sold Kirbys decades ago, even in the early 90's they were fetching $1,700 for the basic models, and about $2,200 for the shampooer option. I would hate to see what they're selling for now.

@NativePortlander1970 The one I got is from the early 90s a generation 3. With the shampoo attachment. I don’t know what they cost now and I know they are very expensive and I would not pay those prices. But they are a solid, well-made vacuum. The one I got there was nothing wrong with it.
