Laundromats are going trendy, cashless, and tik-tok viral all at the same time
Here in Australia people are setting up businesses to create and operate 'luxe laundromats' which are all going cashless and hip/trendy. Laundromat chains like Tumble Club, etc. are popping up all over.
10 years ago when I moved to a country town for a job, I couldn't afford a washing machine so used the town laundromat which took 4 x $1 coins for a load of washing.
Now in 2026 no public laundromats take cash and unless you have an electronic way to pay you can't use them. Very similar to those 24/7 carwash places (which freak me out and I've never used one).
Are laundromats a thing all around the world or just in our so-called 1st-world countries where more and more people live in medium-density housing and basic appliances like washing machines for clothes (and dishwashers) are priced out of many people's budgets.
btw I've never had a dishwasher machine. I am my own dishwasher.
Laundromats are open 24/7 much like 24/7 gyms.
