Fonthill Castle and Moravian Tile Works

I first came here when I was 15 or 16 on an art class field trip. Been coming back ever since.

If I'm ever last man on earth I'm moving in.

I didn't have time to do the inside tour today. These pictures off the net give you an idea. There are staircases winding everywhere.

Even the bathrooms are gothic

Oh wow, thats so awesome
I heard about this place from a guy who grew up near it. To make arched ceilings, he would build a rough platform, and pile dirt and then sand into the ceiling shape he wanted. Then they would place tiles face down into the sand, lay down some steel mesh and pour concrete to make the ceiling and the floor above.
@ElwoodBlues yes! This is correct

Now just how are some of those book accessed? 🙃

The balcony doesn't go far enough. 😱

@DeWayfarer chairs can be moved
@DeWayfarer everything in there is very eccentricly designed. It adds to the fairy tale feel of the place

@robingoodfellow You know, I think I have figured it out.

The devious devils made the shelves with sliders! 😆
