Arizona or Vermont? Local climate matters.
AI sez:
What's a "ton" of air conditioning anyway?? The term comes from
the early 20th-century cooling industry, when an "ice man" would deliver blocks of actual ice (harvested during the winter). A "ton" represents the cooling power equivalent to melting 2,000 lbs (one ton) of ice over a 24-hour period, about 12,000 BTU/hr. A BTU, naturally, is the amount of heat (energy) needed to raise the temperature of one pound of liquid water by 1°F. 12,000 BTUs are also equivalent to 4.715 horsepower hours if you prefer those units of energy.

A 2,000 sq ft home in Arizona generally requires a
3.5 to 4-ton (42,000–48,000 BTUs) AC unit due to the extreme, high-heat climate. While 3 tons might suffice for some, a 3.5 to 4-ton unit is typically recommended to handle Arizona's intense temperatures, ensure proper cooling, and manage humidity

Set for a KC Suburb .. gives you a ball park feel. Your contractor should manage this as part of their bid .. just be sure there is some buffer capacity so you aren't marginal on performance for either temperature extreme you'll see out there.
We have 2 systems covering 3k sq ft .. replaced both in last 4 yrs.

Now that's something outside my area of knowledge, but I'm pretty sure with all these fancy computers now days.
You just enter in the square footage of your home and ask what size of HVAV you would need?
Plus it would tell you how to do the math yourself, best prices, best rated contractors and more.
It's all in the worded. Just like an AI Image Prompt
Like say if were to use DuckAI. You would say "Can you help me find contractors who specialize in HVAC systems? I need to know the appropriate size of the HVAC for a 2000 sq. foot home, and could you also recommend the best brands available?"

If you live where it's hot, a 5-ton unit would be perfect.
If it's underwater, a 5-ton block of ice will do.

probably a 2 1\2 ton system, stick with trane!! many factors determine the size especially the ductwork

50 ton unit
WoWgirll · 36-40, F
@AthrillatheHunt I thought about a window unit in the den downstairs and thank you. By window unit I mean like the motel below the window unit. I didn't know if that would be enough for a den and 2 rooms

@WoWgirll it would be . Do not get a AHU on your roof

Get a company in to give you s free quote. In fact, get several. Go for a higher SEER rating if you can.
Is it insulated, how many windows? Are they new windows?
