DC vs AC fans for interior spaces in homes?
I currently have one AC (240 V 50 Hz) four-bladed fan with 3-speed controller in the loungeroom and no other fans in any other rooms. I don't have any working AC (that's AirCon) in the house.
The existing fan has a horrible circular tube light that doesn't always work and the small box to run the tube doesn't like the ripple-control signals the electricity grid operator feeds down to switch on and off 'controlled loads' (off-peak electric hot water basically).
It has actual metal blades, and I can't run it on anything other than the slowest setting as it goes out of control balance wise.
So I'm thinking of replacing it with a new fan with a proper LED light. I don't find trendy 3-blade fans attractive just fyi.
So I'm looking at fan places and these days there are both DC and AC fans. I don't want a dimmable light, or fancy remote control of the fan's operation.
I'd like to keep the simple 3-speed control so that probably angles me to AC fans. Some people claim DC fans are 'better', 'longer lasting', 'quieter' etc. but I have no idea.
So if you have any ceiling fans in interior spaces, what sort (ac vs dc, remote fancy control vs simple wall control, basic light or dimmable light, etc,) have you chosen for each room/space where you decided to have a fan?
In addition to replacing the loungeroom fan I'm thinking of getting an extra one in my bedroom. The space isn't as big so a small diameter fan probably suits better.
I have reasonably high (2.7 m or about 9 ft) ceilings as this is a 1950's/60's timber frame small 3 br ex govt housing property.
