Is a large basement worth finishing for the resale value of the home??

I'd say look at some comparables in your neighborhood with finished basements and some with unfinished basements. That will give you an idea of if it's worth it or not. I used to be a mortgage underwriter and I'll say that it really depends on your neighborhood and what people are looking for in that neighborhood. The most bang for your buck will be updating kitchens and bathrooms.

@WoWgirll You could make a good profit without finishing it, but have you estimated the costs to finish it yet? It would really depend on how much it will put you out. Sometimes the renovations are just a break even. If you are looking to sell and make a profit it may not be worth the time and money spent but it's hard to say without knowing the true costs to renovate
