I had coal fires that we used downstairs in the house i grew up in.

All 'wonderful and cozy' AFTER you've raked them out; reset them and you have glowing embers.

What's that ? A good half hours work ?

But I don't miss the ash clearing; crawling inside the concrete coal bunker for the last of the fuel prior to delivery of the next lot at ten o'clock on a snowy winters night. 🥶

I've never had one but my grandparents had a pot belly stove and I loved watching my grandfather load it with logs, and the house would be so super cozy and warm 🔥 I wonder if the new owners (my uncle sold their house) still have it.

@Coralmist sounds very nice, my grandparents had something similar, i associate it with a traditional way of living.
