Did a rat do this?? !!

A few weeks ago I saw a huge rat ion my kitchen counter. My neighbor patched up the hole behind my washing machine that I saw it run behind.
I thought the problem was solved but now I am wondering.
I opened my dresser drawer in my bedroom a few minutes ago and found this. It was a tube of glucose tablets. The ONLY place I keep them is in my purse or on my nightstand. It was NOT there yesterday! It’s empty and chewed up! Could this be a rat?
I have heard noises awhile back in my bathroom that’s in my bedroom, and one time months ago I was almost asleep and one of my dresser drawers slid open by itself! I assumed it was a poltergeist and went back to sleep.
Now I’m thinking that rat is stuck in my house somehow since my neighbor patched the holes in my kitchen wall.
My roommate has a cat and she keeps trying to go in my bedroom and I just shoo her out.
That’s it- my next day off I’m going to the animal shelter and getting a cat to keep in my bedroom!

A cat may not help and may be injured or get used to the rat. They are highly intelligent. Try a couple of spring-loaded rat traps with a 'little' peanut butter, placed against a wall. Research articles to help you!

@Oster1 I’m very clumsy about stuff like that and would end up having the trap snap me. Many years ago I had a rat problem and called pest control and they put traps out and I actually saw one of the rats pick up a stick and snap ( is that the right word?) the trap and then eat the peanut butter inside! They are too intelligent for traps. I hate to get poison too because if that kills them, then the feral cats outside would eat it and it would kill them too.

@Mardrae Yes, that's what they do, and why just put a little.

Yeah, in that case do not mess with a trap. They can break your fingers. Get someone to help you. Where there is one, there are others!
