I have a big house

And now its just me living here.
I was thinking of getting a boarder and renting a room.
Will I end up buried in my cellar or will it be fine.🤷‍♀️

Sell it and get a van

Selling it and downsizing might be a safer and better option. Sounds more daunting, I know. Didn't look forward to uprooting and moving to an entire new community when my wife's mobility issue pretty much dictated we needed to and I still miss the old neighborhood. But exploring new surroundings is fun as well. If you do decide on taking in a roomer I would read Talking To Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell, which is an eye-opening and scary look at how bad we are in judging people we don't know -- and it seems it is because of the way humans are wired to judge strangers -- and how those who should be best at it (law enforcement, judges, intelligence services) actually are the worst at it. Then if you still want to take in a roomer I would look to some screening/placement service (colleges needing housing for students, nonprofits serving those in need) which have done some background investigation on candidates for referral.
We were fortunate and our family was great, but it's not always the case.
Be exceedingly cautious, if you opt to rent it.
It's actually a risk, as some point out.

Perhaps, consider selling it or keep it for now.

If you do get a smaller house, you can also buy an RV and travel the country, sounds like a blast.

Just screen potential candidates. 😅

If you can't find anyone you can always get a pet.

I have a small house and have been renting my two spare bedrooms for the last 7 years since my husband died. I also did Airbnb for a few months but hated it, so went back to renting my rooms. I’ve had some really good roommates and some really bad ones. Make sure you put everything in a rental agreement.

I had the same question. Tired of the maintenance. But nothing beats having the family over so I decided to stay put for awhile longer.

Better be very careful and check references close
More than likely it will be fine.

A renter is cool. Maybe a friend?
But, you could always sell and downsize ?

You're American.. Dont do it.. You would be safer offering to share the place with a not for profit half way house..😷

How about a pet first?

You'll be fine

Remember to be stoic and cryptic, sarcastic, and sensual.
And carry a big smirk.
You'll be fine.

I hope not. I eventually sold my big house bc It seemed silly to live there all alone.

Sell it and downgrade
