Discover the Tesla 'wank wall'

Here in Australia there are three former international cricket players spruiking bottom-end cheap Chinese solar systems (some claiming to include home battery setups like the Powerwall) all over radio, print, tv and social media. It's enough to make one spew.

Mostly people who get solar are also likely to have an electric car as well.

However there are no companies promoting going totally off-grid with solar.

The Tesla product supports island mode where you keep your power on in the event of a local power outage which is pretty useful

@CheekyBadger Indeed but every single solar + battery system should do exactly that as it's the reason you'd have batteries in the first place. I've lived fully off-grid (in a place where there is no power grid service) and enjoyed the 'challenges'.

@zonavar68 I agree. They often shut down due to safety regulations to prevent them pushing current back out to the grid which might injure linesmen working to fix damaged infrastructure. The ones that support island mode have to be certified to disconnect completely from the grid.
