Ever had your gas meter serviced?
I've lived in my house for 20 years and this is the first time the gas company contacted me about this. Seems odd -- I'm just anxious about it. I guess the meter may be reaching the end of its useful life.

The gas company has a program which red flags abnormal usage…usually too high or too low a reading. They might send someone to check on the meter but its difficult to verify its operation. Its just cheaper for them to replace it.
Remember, it has moving parts so its bound to fail sooner or later
