Why is Polyamory so looked down on by society?

Is it that much of a problem to love multiple people so deeply in their eyes?

I don't like it but I'm open to it, I just think it is a potential sti fest and can stir undesirable feelings in certain relationships.

To be honest I have even considered that kind of relationship but it simply just makes me angry to think about. What others do is up to them though.
