Why is Polyamory so looked down on by society?

Is it that much of a problem to love multiple people so deeply in their eyes?

It's kinda archaic now but the norm served a benfeficial function in our less developed stages of society. The need and benefit for monogomy just isn't as relevant now for us as it was in the past and old norms die hard.
