Which would you pick, comfort or privacy?

I live in one 12' by 15' room in a rooming house in the California desert. Between about 2:00PM and 4:00PM, my room gets hot because it has a large window with a western exposure and the feeble air conditioning doesn't quite cool the room during that time.

If I leave my door open, my room stays cool because it gets the breeze from the main air conditioning in the main room, hall and kitchen. But then, I have no privacy.
