It never really came up as am issue when I lived in Texas. Basically everyone believed in corporal punishment, and some even believed it should be present in school. Things are waaaaay different in Washington State (where I live now) so I'm just trying to see where people overall seem to fall, since my previous view of "basically everyone agrees with it" was clearly biased based on where I lived.

Corporal punishment was banned in our area during my time at school. I saw a lot of abuse with adult teachers abusing and singling out students they did not like. Male teachers hitting female students made no sense. If this had occurred outside of school the adult would have been arrested. However, being teachers they hid behind their job as a outlet for their abuse.

@CM440 I've heard a lot of similar things from my Godmom, who went to school on england and saw a lot of abuse as a result of corporal punishment being used. I don't see any need for it in schools tbh. Like in high school, there were definitely teachers who GRADED with bias, or called kids out with bias. Can't imagine if that bias was being addressed physically.
