It never really came up as am issue when I lived in Texas. Basically everyone believed in corporal punishment, and some even believed it should be present in school. Things are waaaaay different in Washington State (where I live now) so I'm just trying to see where people overall seem to fall, since my previous view of "basically everyone agrees with it" was clearly biased based on where I lived.

I do think they need to clarify what is or isn't abuse. "Corporal punishment" could be anything from a smack on the wrist to beating your kid half to death. So when that's not clarified, you have some people saying it's illegal to slap your kid on the wrist, while others use it not being outlawed as an excuse to abuse. So it definitely leads to misunderstandings. It either needs to be clarified state by state at the very least
