Can stains get soaked in by wood like it was paint?

@scooogy it will discolour it’ at the least.. anything with an oil in it too

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout The stain I have on my ikea desk is actually coffee. I just wonder about this, since in a cup I could just wipe it away, like it's powder in there.

@scooogy it won’t be deep.. sand it back lightly and repaint/re lacquer
