I bought a 3/2 Ranch house on a big lot when I came home from overseas. Still live there, have added some outbuildings (large garages and workshop), put a block wall around the back and sides and a ranch fence across the front of the property.

@Stereoguy Luckily our property is in the "old" part of town that has no homeowners association and the zoning here is basically "If you aren't retail and you can park the associated vehicles on your own property then we don't care". Many of my neighbors have had "race car shops/private machine shops/restoration shops" = all "large garages" built on the back of their properties over the years. Some others have large swimming pools, some have both pools and garages. The lots here vary from just over 1/3 of an acre to 3/4 of an acre. I'm never moving as I use one of my buildings as a factory for my business... and the commute is short. LOL
