Do you switch your router off when you go out or to bed.

Any decent router should reconnect in a few minutes when switched back on.

I don't but I have friends who do. When I ask them why, they say they don't want the internet coming in while they are asleep. Hehe!

I don't, in fact it's plugged into a battery backup system so it won't even go off if there's a power outage.

@SW-User Are you a gamer, work from home.

@ScottishMaster I work in IT and work from home as well as at my office. I have all my data synced and have a backup that runs over night.

No.The router may be decent, but I am a technophobe who dares not question the magic of the gods.
@pedrohedgerow I gathered why he asked: Scottish Rite is a Masonic body. The head of a lodge is called Master.
ScottishMaster · 51-55, M
@LamontCranston Rite is like half of my sir name as well. Maybe in a past life i was head of a Masonic lodge etc Its Master for other reasons. D / s ones.
@ScottishMaster Mastery in any form is to be admired.

Reasons for doing it.

It saves money, does it get hot?

It will last longer and it resetts it. Sometimes your speed will be much lower than it should be.

Do a speed test before and after you resett it and see if there is a significant change.
Leave it off as long as you can.

I leave it running as there are windows up date that take days to download over my idsl 144k connection. 🎄
trackboy · 22-25, M
@ScottishMaster yes live in the outer suburbs. well outside the range of dsl service. and right at the limit of idsl service which uses a repeater card to boost the line voltage between phone office and house to 100 volt dc. then the repeater card reduces it to normal levels for going to the idsl modem in the house. repeater card is in grey box on side of house. 🎄

@trackboy Do you get a decent phone signal. If so id use a wifi system from a car. You can run it off a battery. You will get a massive difference in speed if you get a half descent phone signal.
trackboy · 22-25, M
@ScottishMaster yes get stable signal on the idsl service. few errors. it stays up and running during the blackouts here. cable internet goes down when the power goes out. cellular service charges a fortune for data. there is no data charge over idsl service. have a ups unit for the router and idsl modem so they stay up when the power goes out. if the power stays out we fire up the generator then switch the house over to generator power. 😺
My security system needs it, plus, I’m not the last to go to bed, ever.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
