Most places take a Security deposit for if you trash the place, some places want first and/or last months rent up front, you need proof you can pay so pay stubs. Some places depending where you live actually run credit checks which I've never heard of before. Guess a lot of people skip out on rent 🤷🏻

Electric for the place, some places charge for water usage, some include it in the rent. 6 month leases are typical, longer you commit you can negotiate for lower rent each month.

Generally, you pay first and last month rent and a security deposit so you don't just fuck off.

Usually, you can leave with 1 month notice, but it would depend on the contact you sign.

@ZeroFox so if i pay in full for the year to live there do i still need a security deposit

@HopelessRomantic You'll have to work that out with the property owner. Most people, though, don't say no to money.

@HopelessRomantic Paying a whole years rent is not wise. What if you are there a month and it turns out to be a nightmare..it happens all the time to people. You'll never get the rest of the money back believe me. Put it in the bank and pay monthly.

Most landlords now not only check your credit score but they very often run a CORI on you (criminal record check). Most around here ask for first, last and security...which is why so many are homeless. What part of the country are you in...assuming it's the USA

They don't care about credit, but they will want to see your last pay stub to prove that you can pay. I've never heard of anyone paying a year in advance.

@dumpstermeow Around here that is the first reason they turn you down...bad credit
Pay for 2-3 months advance , take a video of the whole apartment (if it's furnished)
